CORE CONCEPTS BOX FOLDER

We are always continuing to try and improve the education on the ICU rotation. As part of this, we have introduced the ICU Core Concepts Sheets. The goal is that during your rotation you are part of a conference or discussion, led by and ICU fellow or attending, covering each of these topics. It is highly likely that these will come up for discussion (multiple times) during the course of daily rounds or your usual work, the idea is not that you are going to have to be doing extra work or attend anything extra, but we want to make sure that you hear about each of them at some point in your rotation. This also is a way to track and give us feedback over what is being taught on the rotation. If you rotate multiple times through the SICU, please choose the Advanced Core Concepts list on your subsequent rotations instead of repeating the Basic list.

When a topic is discussed, have your attending or fellow sign off that it has been discussed. There is space at the bottom of each sheet to add topics that are not listed but that were part of your education during the rotation. At the end of the month, please place the sheets in folders labeled “Core Concepts” in the Red and Blue work areas. Or you can email Justin Knittel (knittelj@wustl.edu) a copy/photo of the form.

It is your responsibility to complete all of the items on the list by the end of your rotation. Participation and completion of the Core Concepts IS MANDATORY and will be incorporated into your Rotation Evaluation. If you have any questions, or are having difficulty getting these topics covered, please let email Justin Knittel (knittelj@wustl.edu).
