Postdocs are expected to be independent and good scientific thinkers, but we recognize that they still need training, in particular regarding aspects that will ensure a smooth transition to an independent career.

To train postdocs to become mentors, we require that they closely tutor one PhD student. This will cover all aspects, from fundamental biological knowledge, to technical aspects, or data analysis. This intellectual and/or experimental contribution will be appropriately reflected in any subsequent publication.

Ideally, postdocs in our lab should play it safe and be bold; secure a low risk project and test audacious and challenging ideas; contribute to the lab’s projects and set their own path. In order to achieve this, postdocs in our lab are asked to run a minimum of two projects simultaneously, one being entirely based on their own aspirations.
