Postvention in Schools:

Crisis response teams are responsible for enacting postvention efforts in schools. This may include 

    • Working with students in small groups
      • disclosing only the relevant facts
      • allowing students to express their feelings
      • providing referrals to continued school and community resources 
    • Providing survivor support services and additional resources to students at risk 
    • Following the students in the classes of the student involved in the crisis
    • Supporting teachers and staff impacted by the loss 

School and Community Support and Healing:

Following a suicide crisis, a timely response based on best practices is vital. Such a response can limit the effects of contagion and aid the school and broader community to heal following the loss.
