Ernestina Korleki Dankyi, PhD

Dr. Ernestina Korleki Dankyi holds a PhD in Migration Studies and a Master of Philosophy degree in Sociology both from the University of Ghana. Her lifelong goal is to work assiduously towards the elimination of all forms of homelessness and streetism among children in Sub-Saharan Africa. Her greatest desire is that children will find a home, preferably among ‘family,’ within which to grow and develop. She is currently a Research Fellow at the Centre for Social Policy Studies, University of Ghana. Her broad research interests include age-related vulnerabilities with a particular interest in children and the aged, caregiving arrangements and intergenerational relationships among Ghanaians at home and abroad. She teaches child rights and protection, family, community and social transformation and qualitative research methods at the graduate level. She is also a 2016 Global Fellow with the Global Child Behavioural Health Fellowship programme funded by the McSilver Institute for Poverty Policy and Research at the New York University. She has currently received a seed grant from the Andrew Carnegie Corporation of New York under the ‘Building A New Generation of Academics in Africa’ (BANGA-Africa) programme to conduct a study on the mental health experiences of homeless children in Ghana. She is also a visiting scholar with the Department of Sociology at the University of South Florida, Tampa
