Dr. Ozge Sensoy Bahar and Mr. William Byansi present on the 4Rs and 2Ss Multiple Family Group Model in Dublin

SMART Africa Co-Investigator and Research Professor at the Brown School in Washington University in St. Louis Dr. Ozge Sensoy Bahar and SMART Africa Research Assistant and PhD student William Byansi presented on the adaptation process of an evidence based intervention referred to as the 4Rs and 2Ss Multiple Family Group model at the Social Work, Education and Social Development Conference in Dublin, Ireland on July 7th. The intervention was initially developed and tested in the US with children from low resource settings. The intervention, intended to support families and children with behavioral issues, has been adapted to the Ugandan context for the SMART Africa-Uganda study through a participatory process. With help from community stakeholders including teachers, parents, religious leaders and community health workers, the Uganda team has successfully amended the intervention manual, which has been renamed “Amaka Amasanyufu” meaning “Happy Families” in English. During the presentation, Dr. Ozge and William provided specific examples of changes that were made to the intervention manual as well as the facilitators’ delivery methods.
