Thank you for your interest in the Plastic Surgery Residency Program of the Division of Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery at Washington University in St. Louis. The faculty have worked hard to design a training program with complete, in-depth, didactic presentations and an extensive, rigorous clinical experience. We emphasize the importance of education, clinical training, research, and innovation. Trainees may pursue multiple opportunities during residency to best support their career goals, and we provide formal and informal mentoring programs to help individuals navigate their pathways. The program is continuously evaluated and updated to provide cutting-edge training that prepares residents and fellows to be leaders in the specialties of plastic and reconstructive surgery.
Barnes-Jewish Hospital is the main teaching hospital for the residency program. U.S. News & World Report consistently includes Barnes-Jewish on its Honor Roll among the nation’s top hospitals. Barnes-Jewish is a state-of-the-art medical facility with operating rooms running at capacity every day. Outpatient clinics and ambulatory procedures are conducted at the Center for Advanced Medicine, a patient-friendly facility that allows expedited care of ambulatory patients. A significant portion of the training also takes place at St. Louis Children’s Hospital, which is located on the Barnes-Jewish Hospital campus and is also consistently ranked by U.S. News & World Report as one of the nation’s best children’s hospitals. Trainees also rotate Barnes-Jewish West County Hospital, which provides valuable training at a top community hospital.
The Plastic Surgery Residency Program is associated with Washington University School of Medicine in St. Louis. The School of Medicine is one of the leading medical research, teaching and patient care institutions in the nation, and is consistently ranked one of the top medical schools by U.S. News & World Report. Approximately 1,300 Washington University faculty members practice at Barnes-Jewish Hospital, St. Louis Children’s Hospital or other BJC Healthcare hospitals. The most recent edition of The Best Doctors in America selected more than 400 Washington University faculty members as leading doctors, including approximately half those in the Division of Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery.
