Amy Eyler

Dr. Eyler is a Professor in the Brown School and the Deputy Director of the Prevention Research Center in St. Louis. Dr. Eyler’s main research interests are physical activity, women and cardiovascular disease, community policy and environmental interventions and evaluation.

Dr. Eyler is the principal investigator on multiple studies, including the Building Expansion Evaluation Project (BEEP), which evaluates how changes to design elements in a worksite influence physical activity and sedentary behavior, collaboration and team science, and sustainability practices. She also conducts analyses on state-level policies as they relate to childhood obesity, cancer prevention, and chronic disease. She was the principal investigator of the Physical Activity Policy Research Network (PAPRN) for ten years, integrating the work of 16 research sites studying the nature and extent of physical activity policy in a variety of settings. Her work on these projects as well as others inform teaching activities in Research Methods and public health classes. She also served as Assistant Dean for Public Health for several years, where she advised students and oversaw many administrative aspects of the MPH program.

Dr. Eyler is a well-published author and presenter. Her research has been featured in the American Journal of Public Health, Journal of Physical Activity and Health, Journal of Public Health Practice and Management among others. She served on a 2013 Institute of Medicine Committee to study Physical Activity and Physical Education in Schools and co-authored “Educating the Study Body: Taking Physical Activity and Physical Education to School.” She is the lead editor of the book “Prevention, Policy, and Public Health.”

She has a Master’s in Physical Education and Adult Fitness from Ohio University and a Doctorate in Public Health from Oregon State University. She is a member of the American Public Health Association, American College of Sports Medicine and is a Certified Health Education Specialist.
