Alex Antonio Florindo is an Associate Professor at the University of São Paulo, Brazil. In the last 20 years, he has led the Physical Activity Epidemiology group at the University of Sao Paulo, published more than 150 papers, achieved a h-index of 24, and is currently one of the top 10,000 Latin American Scientists. Dr. Florindo participated in creating a Surveillance System at the Ministry of Health in Brazil (VIGITEL System) which identifies risk factors for Chronic Diseases including physical inactivity and also participated in the second phase of the Guia Project, which evaluated physical activity interventions in primary health care settings in Brazil. Dr. Florindo was involved in evaluating the implementation of the Academia da Saúde Program in Brazil, with his group first studying the associations between the built environment and physical activity in populations and leading a cohort study with 1,500 people living in Sao Paulo, Brazil. Dr. Florindo was President of the Brazilian Society for Physical Activity and Health between 2018 and 2020 and was part of the Scientific Committee that elaborated the Physical Activity Guide for the Brazilian population at the Ministry of Health. He is currently part of the Leadership Committee for the SUNRISE study; a surveillance system which examines movement behaviours in children under 5 in more than 70 countries. Dr. Florindo was part of the Second Lancet Series of Urban Design, Transport and Health that was published in 2022.
