Measuring Spatial Inequities Pilot

Measuring Spatial Inequities in Urban Communities

A novel collaboration with the Multimodal Vision Research Lab, this pilot study aims to use street view and satellite images to catalogue and measure elements of the built environment that affect health and make urban environments livable.

Our goal is to develop an algorithm that will be able to measure the presence and quality of health-promoting neighborhood features such as transportation infrastructure, food resources, sidewalks, streets, parks and green spaces, housing, and healthcare. Specifically, we want to be able to measure spatial inequities in the distribution and/or quality of these amenities across neighborhoods.

This study is funded by the Washington University Here & Next Seed Grant program.
