Rita Levi-Montalcini, PhD

Professor of Biology at Washington University

(1909 – 2012)

In 1986 she was awarded the Nobel Prize in physiology or medicine for the discovery of nerve growth factor (with Dr. Viktor Hamburger).

She worked at Wash U. Biology Department for 30 years and in 1958 she became a full professor here.

In 1987 she was awarded National Medal Of Science.

From 2001 until her death, she served in the Italian Senate as a Senator for Life.
