Alejandro Vélez Meléndez, PhD
Assistant Professor at San Francisco State University
Born and raised in Bogotá, Colombia. Was a Postdoctoral Research Associate in Bruce Carlson’s lab: 2014-2017. Currently an Assistant Professor at San Francisco State University
His research investigates the mechanisms, function and evolution of animal communication and signal-processing using Pacific chorus frogs and their iconic “ribbit” as a model system
Alejandro has been recognized for his Outstanding Performance in Teaching, was awarded the Best Dissertation Award in Biology and Medicine and the Presidential Award for Professional Development of Probationary Faculty
