A recent study “Is multidimensional poverty associated to dementia risk? The case of older adults in Pakistan,” published in the journal Innovation in Aging by Jean-François Trani, PhD, Yiqi Zhu, PhD, Soobin Park, MSW, and Ganesh M. Babulal, PhD, OTD. The study found an increasing risk of Alzheimer’s disease and related dementia due to poor social determinants of health. The study took place in Punjab and Sindh provinces of Pakistan in 2022 among adults 50 and older and considered multidimensional measures of poverty. Findings from the study underlined the importance of free quality universal health care and education, fair access to the labor market, and adequate housing for all, with special attention to the most vulnerable groups.
