Gabor Egervari, MD, PhD

Gabor Egervari, MD, PhD

Principal Investigator

Dr. Gabor Egervari completed medical training at the Semmelweis University in Hungary and obtained a PhD in neuroscience from the Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai in New York. In Dr. Yasmin Hurd’s lab, he studied the effects of long-term heroin use on the neuroepigenome in post-mortem human brains and rodent models of heroin self-administration. Gabor then completed his postdoctoral training with Dr. Shelley Berger at the University of Pennsylvania, where he studied the role of nuclear metabolic enzymes in gene regulation. His laboratory explores the role of metabolic-epigenetic interactions in the healthy and diseased brain, with particular emphasis on substance use disorders and neurodegeneration.

Erica Periandri, MS

Erica Periandri, MS

Senior Research Technician

Erica is originally from the St. Louis region. Her main research interest is neurogenetics in the context of addiction, which she started studying while earning her master’s degree in biological sciences at SIUE. Outside of this primary field of interest, she enjoys learning about other topics by listening to her favorite podcast, Ologies. Aside from podcasts, she also likes listening to music and audiobooks. In her free time, you will most likely find her spending time with her favorite people (or enjoying the company of feline friends), exploring the great outdoors (or indoors), attempting to learn guitar, appreciating live music, or eating vegan ice cream.

Kala Dodson

Kala Dodson

Research Technician II

Kala obtained undergraduate degrees in Neuroscience and Biology from Saint Louis University. Her research interests are in the biochemical interactions that underlie neural plasticity and neurodegeneration. She enjoys hiking, baking, kayaking, being with her friends/family, and listening to music. Aside from that, Kala has two miniature dachshunds who are the highlight of her everyday life.
