Research Description:

The islets of Langerhans regulate metabolic homeostasis through glucose-dependent hormone secretion, a process that is partly mediated by a small organelle called primary cilia. Our work has shown that primary cilia are required for beta cell glucose sensing and insulin secretion, and we are studying the mechanism of this regulation with the goal of understanding cilia-responsive pathways in diabetes and metabolism.
