Veronica Bruesch is an enrolled member of the Wichita & Affiliated Tribes of Oklahoma. She graduated with her Bachelor of Arts in Indigenous and American Indian Studies from Haskell Indian Nations University. Veronica worked for Cheyenne & Arapaho Tribes of Oklahoma in Indian Education under the STEP (State Tribal Education Partnership) federal grant to meet the educational needs of Native students who were at-risk for dropping out of school to keep them on track for graduation. She graduated in 2016 with her Masters in Social Worker from Washington University in St. Louis in the concentration of American Indian/ Alaskan Native. After graduation, Veronica resided on the Oneida Indian Reservation. Veronica employed included; Investigator/Social Worker for  Menominee Indian Tribe of Wisconsin as a Social Worker, Oneida Nation Indian Child Welfare, government level social worker in the area of child maltreatment and child protection with Outagamie County. She is also was a trainer for Wisconsin Professional Development for the University of Wisconsin – Madison and University of Wisconsin – Milwaukee where she trained social workers, case managers, supervisors, and attorneys in Case Practice with American Indians. Veronica’s research interest area is focused on American Indians and Alaskan Natives trauma informed care, evidence based cultural practices, impacts of historical trauma, federal Indian policy, Indian Child Welfare Act of 1978, and child maltreatment in Indian Country.

As the current Assistant Director of the Kathryn M. Buder Center for American Indian Studies, she is tasked with recruiting prospective American Indian and Alaska Native students, providing professional development opportunities, supporting Buder Scholars, and collaborating with Center stakeholders in various projects.
