Thierry C. Uhawenimana is a public health specialist and lecturer at the University of Rwanda, College of Medicine and Health Sciences. With a strong background in advanced research methods, global health, and integrated nursing and midwifery research, male involvement in maternal and childcare, and health promotion, Dr. Thierry utilizes his expertise to inform policy in the crucial areas of maternal health and sexual and reproductive health. In addition to his teaching and research responsibilities within the College of Medicine and Health Sciences, Dr. Thierry actively contributes to the production of high-quality academic publications as an Associate Editor and peer reviewer for reputable international journals; namely, JBI Evidence Synthesis, Journal of Medical Internet Research, and Rwanda Journal of Medicine and Health Sciences.
Dr. Thierry dedicates a significant amount of time to developing project proposals related to universal health coverage, evaluating healthcare provision projects, identifying some of the issues affecting the sexual and reproductive health of adolescents, and assessing the implementation of novel interventions to scale-up healthcare quality. His proficiency extends to writing technical reports for project inception, implementation, and completion, as well as developing evaluation tools.
Dr. Thierry’s work encompasses research methods for public health, health edutainment, maternal and child health, nursing and midwifery, and implementation sciences. With a comprehensive understanding of both theoretical concepts and practical experience, Dr. Thierry utilizes quantitative and qualitative methods, and systematic reviews to develop interventions for addressing quality improvement for the care of mothers and their families, fostering male involvement in maternal healthcare, and scaling up young people’s awareness and knowledge about HIV/AIDS prevention. He is a linguist, holding a master’s degree in public health leadership from Uganda Christian University, and a PhD in maternal and child health from the University of Dundee, United Kingdom. Thierry’s doctoral research focused on the factors influencing the participation of male partners in childbirth within Rwandan health facilities.
