Caitlin DeAngelo

Postdoctoral Research Associate (2018-2020)

Caitlin received her B.S. in chemistry from Lycoming College in Williamsport, PA in 2013 and her Ph.D. in chemistry from the University of Southern California in Los Angeles, CA in 2018 under the direction of Prof. Nicos A. Petasis.  Her undergraduate and Ph.D. research spanned a variety of organic and medicinal chemistry topics including the development of new synthetic methodologies, structure-based drug design and synthesis of inhibitors for the dUTPase enzyme and the MEF2-HDAC protein-protein interaction, and light-activated drug delivery applications for traumatic brain injury.  She joined the Wencewicz lab in the Fall of 2018, and she is currently working on designing and synthesizing novel inhibitors for the tetracycline destructase enzymes.  Outside of the lab, Caitlin enjoys riding her bike, hiking/backpacking/camping, cheering for the Phillies, and tutoring students in organic chemistry. Caitlin’s favorite antibiotic is vancomycin
