On February 20, 2020, the Human Trafficking Collaborative Network (HTCN) at the Washington University Institute for Public Health (IPH) and the National Council of Jewish Women St. Louis (NCJW) held the first session for Advocacy Done Right: 2020 Policy Series on Human Trafficking and Human Rights at the Institute of Public Health.
Part I of this year’s series focused on contrasting available healthcare system practices and legislation associated with anti-human trafficking efforts between Missouri and Texas. Featured speakers included Mollie R. Gordon MD, Brian Froelke MD, and Melissa Kroll MD.
The presenters discussed:
- Basic background information about human trafficking and exploitation in Texas and Missouri
- Three aspects of anti-trafficking legislation, including protections, awareness and punishments
- How legislative effort is critical to advocacy for anti-human trafficking and promoting human rights
