The CRAB lab Mission Statement has three pillars:

- Science: Advance our understanding of the neurodevelopmental processes that underlie real-world social and emotional processing and how these processes differ as a function of anxiety and depression risk and symptoms. The long term goal is to be able to use this knowledge to improve clinical interventions and treatments for affected children.
- Training: Provide high-quality training and mentorship to the next generation of scientists. We accomplish this through a combination of training sessions offered OCEAN-wide and 1-on-1 mentoring tailored to the trainee. The goal is to scaffold individual professional development which in turn benefits science and society.
- Community: Positively contribute the broader scientific community by enabling full participation of historically excluded individuals in academia; fostering a community of inclusion and mutual respect; and practicing open science.
All three of these pillars are equally important and shape all aspects of the lab.
