The Pan-American Intercollegiate Team Chess Championship (often shortened to Pan Ams) is the nation’s largest college chess tournament, featuring schools from around North America. This year, the tournament was held in McAllen, Texas from January 4th to 7th, hosted by the South Texas Chess Federation.
This year, the WashU Chess Club sent out three teams (A, B, and C) of four players, two in the Open section and one in the Under 1800 section. Team A tied for second in Division II and Team B managed to clinch the top spot in Division III with an incredible comeback late into the tournament, marking WashU as one of the top non-scholarship schools for chess. Congrats to our Pan-Ams players!
