Jon Silva, PhD

Department of Biomedical Engineering

Dr. Silva’s lab uses molecular imaging methods, such as voltage-clamp fluorometry, to understand how voltage sensing domains regulate gating of ion channels in multiple cell types. Separately, Dr. Silva has a research program on brain-machine interfaces using augmented reality. He has launched a start-up company to assist physicians with catherization procedures using augmented reality modeling methods. Students working with Dr. Silva will advance instrumentation design for making human measurements or optical detection of ion channel movement, and develop algorithms to enhance optical feature resolution and signal processing in application to studies of excitable cells.
