Dr. Rutz’s research is focused on bridging living systems and technologies for sensing, diagnostic, and therapeutic applications in healthcare, including electronic devices for neural interfacing. Students working with Dr. Rutz will learn how to manipulate biological-device interactions through materials design and the use of advanced manufacturing, and will possess a range of skills needed for device development ranging from materials synthesis & characterization, fabrication methods, in vitro device characterization and study of cell-material interactions, and in vivo validation and study of tissue-device interactions.
