The Health, Economic, & Social Impacts of COVID-19 + Vaccination Beliefs: Findings from Rapid Analysis of Qualitative Interviews with St. Louis Residents
Research Highlights
What’s the question your research is trying to answer?
How have adults in St. Louis, particularly African American adults been impacted by the Covid-19 pandemic. How has the pandemic impacted the St. Louis community. How are individuals thinking and making decisions about covid-19 vaccination. How do covid-19 experiences impact these decisions?
Why did you choose this topic? Who did you work with?
I have been working on this project conducting qualitative interviews since August of 2021. I wanted to present findings from our rapid analysis of the interviews.
What conclusions came out of the research?
Participants have reported financial strain, social isolation, reduced community resources, and mental health struggles due to the covid-19 pandemic. Vaccination decisions are shaped by the influence of family and friends, the ease of vaccination, mandates, mistrust of medicine and government, and an information environment saturated with conflicting information and conspiracy theories.
