Simon Mwima, MA, MPH is an advanced doctoral student of Social Work at the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign. Simon has worked at the Uganda’s Ministry of Health, AIDS Control Program and has experience in clinical health practice, policy, and implementation of evidence-based HIV/AIDS and other STIs prevention interventions for key populations in Uganda. His primary research focuses on equitable and effective adoption, implementation, and sustainability of evidence-based interventions in real-world settings. His current research aims to develop, evaluate, and optimize the implementation of biomedical interventions, specifically Pre-Exposure Prophylaxis (PrEP), to promote its equitable access for adolescents and male sex workers in diverse settings within Uganda. He aims to utilize participatory research approaches and implementation science theories, methods, frameworks, and models to co-create, implement, and evaluate evidence-based interventions designed to improve HIV, AIDS and STIs prevention, care and treatment for the most vulnerable adolescents, emerging adults, and communities in Uganda, Sub-Saharan Africa and around the world.
