Flavia Namuwonge, MBA, is the Head of Operations and Research Coordinator at Washington University’s International Center for Child Health and Development (ICHAD) Field Offices in Uganda. Flavia’s research interests center around working with children, adolescents/youth and families impacted by poverty, HIV/AIDS and poor mental health functioning. For the past 8 years, Flavia has worked on and implemented multiple National Institutes of Health (NIH) funded studies in Uganda—funded to ICHAD. These studies, include the Suubi+Adherence —focused on treatment and adherence for children living with HIV/AIDS; the Suubi4Her —focused on keeping young girls from poor families who live in low-resourced communities in school by addressing their economic needs and offering them with psychosocial and emotional support. As Head of Operations, Flavia’s roles and responsibilities include supervising the implementation of several NIH funded studies in the field. Specifically, working with PIs for each study, Flavia is responsible for ensuring that each study is implemented according to the proposed protocol. Flavia is also directly involved in conceptualizing manuscripts and dissemination of findings from the several studies she coordinates. These manuscripts appear in several academic journals including Journal of the International AIDS Society, BMC Public Health, Journal of Adolescent Health, and PLOS One. She has presented at several national and international conferences. Flavia holds a BA in Social Sciences from Makerere University, Uganda; and a Master’s in Business Administration (MBA) from Uganda Martyrs University.
