The training that our Diversity Advisors receive comes from the WUSM Office of Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (ODEI) 1.0-4.0 series. If you have not already done this training, visit the ODEI training schedule website to get scheduled.
When assisting with writing the job summaries and descriptions, WUSM ODEI has great guidance on their website. We’ve also been grateful to find helpful handouts from the University of Washington, and Inclusive Language Guide from the American Psychological Association, and guidance from the Oregon State University.
Once the description has been approved by the Diversity Advisor and hiring manager, and posted by department payroll, our Diversity Advisors suggest different forums and websites that this opportunity can be advertised to expand the applicant pool: our city newspaper, identity-based job forums, and university alumni office job boards, etc.
As applications start to roll in, Diversity Advisors can then provide DEI-related interview questions so that hiring managers can gauge a candidate’s values, experiences, and approaches in working with people from diverse backgrounds.
