Casey Thompson

Casey is a fifth year in the Molecular Microbiology and Microbial Pathogenesis Ph.D. program (MMMP) and studies cellular entry factors requisite for New World Arenavirus entry and fusion in the lab of Dr. Sean Whelan. She earned her B.Sc. in Biomedical Sciences and Microbiology from Colorado State University. Prior to her doctoral studies, she worked as a Research Technician in Dr. Leor Weinberger’s lab at the Gladstone Institutes in San Francisco. Casey is also MMMP’s social events coordinator and has previously worked coordinating and marketing Pride and AIDS walk events prior to graduate school. She has a passion for science communication specifically in its ability to aid in community outreach, policy, education, all to further research. Outside of lab she enjoys homebrewing, gardening, and foraging.
