Welcome to Political Theory at Washington University
Political theory at Washington University is a multidisciplinary community of faculty and students dedicated to the study of central normative, interpretive, explanatory, and conceptual ideas in political, social, and legal theory and philosophy. Members of the community are primarily drawn from political science and philosophy, with substantial involvement from scholars in American culture studies; anthropology; the Danforth Center on Religion and Politics; English; history; law; social work; and women, gender, and sexuality studies.
We embrace a wide diversity of substantive foci and methodological approaches including, but not limited to, the use of analytic, historical, and interpretive methods to investigate and evaluate political and social institutions and practices.
