Tessa Madden, M.D., M.P.H.
Dr. Tessa Madden is an obstetrician-gynecologist with subspecialty training in family planning and a background in public health with concentration in epidemiology and biostatistics. Her research interests include contraception, with an emphasis on contraceptive decision making and increasing the uptake of intrauterine devices and implants.
Dr. Madden was a co-investigator for the Contraceptive Choice Project, a prospective cohort study which recruited 9,256 women in the St. Louis region and evaluated contraceptive effectiveness, satisfaction and continuation. She is currently funded on a K23 patient-oriented research career development award evaluating a Web-based tool to provide decision support for contraceptive decision making. She has experience with randomized trials having previously conducted a randomized trial of pharmacologic interventions for irregular bleeding with the levonorgestrel intrauterine system. She also was recently awarded a grant from PCORI for a project implementing patient-centered contraceptive provision into community settings. She is also the recipient of a CMS Health Innovation Award.
