James Krings, M.D.

James Krings, MD is an Assistant Professor of Medicine in the Division of Pulmonary Critical Care at Washington University in St. Louis School of Medicine. Originally from the St. Louis area, he completed fellowship in Pulmonary and Critical Care Medicine at Washington University. During his fellowship he studied the management of asthma and has worked towards completion of a Master of Science in Clinical Investigation degree. Prior to Pulmonary Critical Care fellowship, he completed his residency in Internal Medicine at Northwestern University School of Medicine in Chicago, Illinois and his medical school at Stanford University School of Medicine in Palo Alto, California.
Dr. Krings clinically works in the medical intensive care unit and pulmonary clinics at Barnes Jewish Hospital. His research focus is on finding ways to improve the care of patients with asthma and obstructive lung disease. Specifically, through the Mentored Training in Implementation Science (MTIS) program, he is interested in studying implementation strategies to improve inhaler adherence. At the moment, medication non-adherence is notoriously common in asthma and a cause of significant morbidity and mortality. In addition, he is interested in strategies to increase dissemination and provider understanding of the latest asthma guidelines.
