Byron Powell’s research focuses on efforts to improve the quality of behavioral health and social services. Specifically, his scholarship has focused on 1) identifying contextual barriers and facilitators to implementing evidence-based practices in routine care, 2) identifying and assessing the effectiveness of implementation strategies, 3) developing methods for designing and tailoring implementation strategies, and 4) advancing implementation research methods. His work has primarily been supported by the National Institutute for Dissemination and Implementation Research in Health (TIDIRH), TIDIRH-Ireland, and the Knowledge Translation Canada Summer Institute.

Byron is Co-Chair of the Society for Social Work and Research’s Implementation Special Interest Group and the Society for Implementation Research Collaboration’s New Investigator Network of Expertise. He is a current or past member of advisory boards for the AHRQ, NIH, VA, SAMHSA, and the National Child Traumatic Stress Network. Byron serves as an ad hoc grant reviewer for NIH, AHRQ, PCORI, and other funders. He is on the editorial boards of Implementation Science, Implementation Research and Practice, and Social Work Research.
