Angela Stover, PhD
Dr. Stover is a health services researcher with expertise in developing and implementing patient-reported outcomes (PROs) into routine care. She is an assistant professor of Health Policy and Management and an associate member of Lineberger Comprehensive Cancer Center at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. Her research focuses on three areas: 1) clinical benefits of using PRO measures (e.g., symptom questionnaires) during routine care delivery; 2) testing aggregated PROs as a potential quality of care metric at the practice level; and 3) using implementation science and practice facilitation to integrate PROs into community oncology practices. She typically uses mixed methods in her work (qualitative, quantitative, and implementation science). Dr. Stover serves as an investigator and co-investigator on several studies funded by NIH and PCORI. One of these studies is a 50-site trial examining whether chemotherapy patients randomized to complete weekly ePROs at home between visits (with automated alerts to nurses) have better clinical outcomes (fewer ER visits, better survival, better quality of life). Prior to doctoral training, Dr. Stover was one of the original developers of NIH’s PROMIS (Patient-Reported Outcomes Measurement Information System) measures assessing symptoms across a variety of health conditions (U01-AR052155, University of Pittsburgh).
