Lunar Meteorite: Northwest Africa 16565
from The Meteoritical Bulletin, No. 113 Northwest Africa 16625 (NWA 16625)(Northwestern Africa) Lunar meteorite (feldspathic breccia) History: Bought in Morocco in March 2022. Physical Characteristics: Black stone. Cut surface reveals a gray interior with visible mm-size whitish or black clasts. Petrography: (J. Gattacceca, CEREGE) Igneous rock with mineral clasts (olivine, pyroxene, anorthite) to 300 µm set in a partially molten feldspathic matrix. One 2-mm anorthite clast is present in the studied section. Opaque minerals: metal, troilite, ilmenite. Geochemistry: Olivine Fa25.5, FeO/MnO 122 (n=2). Pyroxene Fs42.5±11.1Wo28.5±10.3, , range Fs22.6-52.4, FeO/MnO 67.4±4.0 (n=6). Anorthite clasts An96.2±0.6Ab3.8Or0.1 (n=2). Feldspathic matrix An93.6Ab6.1Or0.2 (n=2). Classification: Achondrite (lunar, feldspathic breccia, polymict) Specimens: Type specimen at CEREGE. Main mass with Labenne. |
