Lunar Meteorite: Northwest Africa 12643
from The Meteoritical Bulletin, No. 108 Northwest Africa 12643 (NWA 12643)(Northwestern Africa) Lunar meteorite (feldspathic breccia) History: Purchased in February 2019 by Darryl Pitt from a Mauritanian dealer. Petrography: (A. Irving, UWS and P. Carpenter, WUSL) Breccia composed of angular mineral grains of predominantly anorthite together with olivine, low-Ca pyroxene, augite, Ti-chromite and minor secondary barite. Geochemistry: Plagioclase (An96.4-96.6Or0.1, N = 2), olivine (Fa25.4-25.8, FeO/MnO = 92-93, N = 2), low-Ca pyroxene (Fs20.6-20.9Wo4.3-3.5, FeO/MnO = 51-52, N = 2), augite (Fs10.5-10.6Wo42.3-41.6, FeO/MnO = 33-35, N = 2). Classification: Lunar (feldspathic breccia). Specimens: 20.4 g including a polished endcut and a polished epoxy mount at UWB; remainder with DPitt. |
