Lunar Meteorite: Tisserlitine 003
| from The Meteoritical Bulletin, No. 112 Tisserlitine 003 Gao, Mali Lunar meteorite (feldspathic breccia) History: Found in Mali and purchased jointly by Adam Aaronson and Ahmed Salek in January 2023 from a dealer in Azwika, Mali. Petrography: (A. Irving, UWS and P. Carpenter, WUSL) Breccia composed predominantly of mineral clasts of anorthite, olivine, pigeonite and subcalcic augite together with some fine grained impact melt clasts within a very fine grained matrix containing sporadic small vesicles. Accessory phases include labradorite, silica polymorph (presumably cristobalite judging for the distinctive hackly fracture pattern), kamacite, troilite, magnesian ilmenite, REE-bearing merrillite and minor secondary barite. Geochemistry: Anorthite (An94.8-95.1Or0.1, N = 3), olivine (Fa26.3-36.1, FeO/MnO = 79-98, N = 5), pigeonite (Fs17.2-27.8Wo11.5-13.9, FeO/MnO = 46-50, N = 2), subcalcic augite (Fs14.5-21.0Wo35.3-35.6, FeO/MnO = 44-53, N = 3), labradorite (An63.7Or1.8). Classification: Lunar (feldspathic breccia). Specimens: 25.6 g including a polished endcut at UWB; remainder with Aaronson and Mr. A. Salek. |
| Randy Says… I have not studied Tisserlitine 003. The meteorite was found 206 km from Tisserlitine 001, so the meteorites are not likely paired despite that both are large feldspathic breccias. |
