Simone Schriger

Doctoral Student, Clinical Psychology, University of Pennsylvania

Simone is a doctoral student in clinical psychology at the University of Pennsylvania. She is dedicated to a career focused on closing the mental health treatment gap, particularly in resource-limited environments within and outside of the US. Simone graduated cum laude from Bates College in 2014 and later carried out research in Malawi, South Africa, and India as a Thomas J. Watson fellow. She also worked in Rwanda as a Davis Fellow for Peace and in Uganda as a research coordinator. Simone carried out her Masters thesis on community mental health in Philadelphia. She has particular interests in using implementation science and community-based participatory research to increase the sustainment and scalability of evidence-based practices in community settings. Simone is also interested in better understanding the principles of ethical and equitable global health partnerships and seeks to approach her research through a social justice lens.

Simone worked with mentor, Dr. Fred Ssewamala, to code transcripts for the International Center for Child Health and Development (ICHAD) Kyaterekera study which examines depressive symptoms, reproductive practices, and contraceptive use among female sex workers (FSW) in Uganda. She also completed an extensive literature review and worked to conceptualize a paper so analyses can begin.
