Assistant Professor, Department of Nursing, University of Texas Health San Antonio

Dr. Sara Mithani (She/Her) is an Assistant Professor at the UT Health San Antonio School of Nursing and a Health Research Scientist at the South Texas VA Medical Center. She completed her predoctoral and postdoctoral training at the National Institutes of Health, earning her PhD from the University of Illinois, Chicago. Her research endeavors are dedicated to advancing the clinical and mechanistic understanding of sleep and mental health disorders. Her program integrates ‘omics’ methodologies (transcriptomics, proteomics), phenotypic presentation, and clinical symptom assessment to elucidate the underlying mechanisms of these disorders. A primary focus of Dr. Mithani’s research is the identification of biomarkers, intended to be practical, trackable, and derived from biofluids easily accessible across different populations and geographical locations. The goal is to discover phenotypic and mechanistic biomarkers that ultimately aid in the development of treatments centered around the unique needs of each patient.
