Sanya Sellers, MD
Psychiatry Resident, Yale University
Sirikanya (Sanya) Sellers was born and raised in Bangkok, Thailand, and moved to Florida at the age of 10. As an undergraduate at the University of Florida, Sanya earned a dual degree in Biochemistry and International Studies. She then spent a year studying Mandarin at Fudan University in Shanghai, China. At the University of Central Florida College of Medicine, she co-founded Chapman Compassionate Care, a student-run monthly skin-and-wound-care clinic serving the Orlando homeless community. Her commitment to helping marginalized communities led her to also spend a month in Lesvos, Greece, where Sanya volunteered at the Kara Tepe refugee camp for asylum seekers. Her passion for mental and public health also translated into her spearheading another new organization, Rising Youth, a 501(c)3 nonprofit that provides mentorship and education about mental wellness skills for high-school students. Sanya is currently a psychiatry resident at Yale and is the resident leader for Yale Global Mental Health program. She is committed to social justice and is interested in pursuing public policy work, global mental health, and serving vulnerable and underserved populations. She is extremely excited in the LEAD program as she would like to develop her research skills and learn from amazing mentors. In her free time, she enjoys running, rock climbing, and aspires to be on Survivor.
