Lojine Kamel, MD

Psychiatry Resident, Washington University School of Medicine

Dr. Kamel is a psychiatry resident at Washington University of St. Louis. After growing up in Chicago, she spent nearly a decade of her adult life in Beirut, Lebanon, where she completed her undergraduate education and medical school. There, she discovered a passion for mental health and women’s health, leading to her ongoing research in interventional and reproductive psychiatry. She otherwise enjoys spending time with her husband and three Bengal cats, visiting the St. Louis zoo, and hiking.

Dr. Kamel worked with her mentor, Dr. Fred Ssewamala, to deliver a supplement questionnaire to the International Center for Child Health and Development (ICHAD) Kyaterekera study which examines depressive symptoms, reproductive practices, and contraceptive use among female sex workers (FSW) in Uganda. She also worked with mentor, Dr. Patricia Cavazos, to coauthor the article “Exploring attitudes and misconceptions surrounding medication for addiction treatment among individuals with Opioid Use Disorder” in press in the Journal of Substance Abuse Treatment.
