- Jiaoshi’s paper “Stratospheric air intrusions promote global-scale new particle formation” is published in Science. We found that new particle formation is greatly promoted when lower stratospheric and upper tropospheric air mix, which is significant for fully understanding the sources and processes of aerosols in the troposphere. This exciting work is highlighted by Science and covered by WashU. Congratulations, Jiaoshi!
- The first field campaign of the Community Research on Climate and Urban Science (CROCUS) starts in Chicago. We are going to study aerosols and trace gases in urban air.
- May 2024
- NASA’s Arctic Radiation-Cloud-Aerosol-Surface Interaction EXperiment (ARCSIX) starts in Greenland. We will measure the Arctic aerosol properties onboard a research airplane and explore how aerosols affect clouds and radiation during the early melting season.

- Xiaoyu attended the 2024 AMS Annual Meeting and presented a poster about the research on air quality and urban heat island.
- Xianda’s paper “Maximum Supersaturation in the Marine Boundary Layer Clouds Over the North Atlantic” was featured as an Editor’s Highlight on Eos.org. This research sheds light on the coupling between the chemical composition and the physical properties of the atmosphere. Congratulations, Xianda!

- We attended the 2023 AGU Annual Meeting. Lei gave an oral presentation about the warm air intrusion in Arctic. Shengqian gave an e-Lightening presentation about shoreline sea spray aerosol.

Jing and Maiqi had two posters introducing aerosol properties during the TRACER campaign and the impact of aerosol on precipitation in stratocumulus clouds.

- We are receiving funding from Department of Energy for a collaborative project with Prof. Tim Bertram and Prof. Joel Thornton. We are going to the Azores (again) to study marine aerosols!
- The overview paper of Aerosol and Cloud Experiments in the Eastern North Atlantic (ACE-ENA) led by our group is now published in Bulletin of the American Meteorological Society. The paper presents measurements, observation strategy, meteorological conditions of the ACE-ENA campaign, preliminary findings, and future analyses and modeling studies.
