  • B.E. Environmental Engineering, Chongqing University

Yan joined Washington University in Fall 2020. She completed a Guided Research Project in Fall 2020, first-year graduate student Research Rotation in Spring 2021, and joined the Turner Group as a doctoral student in June 2021. Her research focuses on spatial variability of air pollutants at urban- and finer-scales, including work in St. Louis, outstate Missouri, and Louisville. Yan leads the Turner Group collaboration with Great Rivers Environmental Law Center (GRELC) to evaluate potential disparities in ambient ozone concentrations across the Dutchtown neighborhood in the City of St. Louis. She leads the Turner Group collaboration with Missouri Coalition for the Environment (MCE) to assess the impacts of concentrated animal feeding operations (CAOFs) on downwind air quality. Yan also works in Louisville as part of a team using time-integrated passive sampling and high time resolution measurements to examine outdoor VOC concentrations across the city and determinants for indoor VOC exposures, and leads the Green Heart Louisville passive sampling network operations to quantify small spatial scale variations in ozone and oxides of nitrogen concentrations .
