Becker Medical Library

Zainab I., M1

Becker Medical Library is one of my favorite study spots. When the stakes are low, I love to study on the first floor, the “yap floor,” where the energy is usually high, and people are constantly stopping by to say hello. However, when I need to lock in, I head to the quiet third floor. The space is organized with cubicles, creating an environment that helps me concentrate. Plus, the wellness wagon is on this floor, offering snacks and coffee that keep me motivated. Another highlight of Becker is the seventh floor, which has a stunning panoramic view of Forest Park and the campus. On the flip side, the basement has no windows, but many people prefer it because it is completely silent. Becker Medical Library truly has a space for everyone, no matter your study preferences.

Coffee Shops (On Campus)

Sundeep C., M1

The coffee shops on campus are great options for students looking to balance productivity and convenience. Kaldi’s Coffee in the Farrell Learning and Teaching Center is a popular choice since it has ample seating and is located right at the entrance of the building. The Kaldi’s on the second floor of the Mid Campus Center has less seating, but is more convenient for students moving between the Farrell Learning and Teaching Center and the hospitals. The Shell Cafe, located in the McDonnell Medical Sciences Building is similar to the Farrell Learning and Teaching Center Kaldi’s, but has many more food options if you’re looking to refuel yourself before or after class. If you want to step away from the hustle and bustle of the medical campus, Panera Bread is located on the edge of the medical campus, only a seven-minute walk away from the Farrell Learning and Teaching Center.

Farrell Learning and Teaching Center & Lounge

Kate S., M1

The Farrell Learning and Teaching Center is the Swiss Army knife of study spots. You can sit in one of the student lounges on the third and fourth floors and get through some Anki cards, take over a group study room with some friends, or spread your thoughts out on the two whiteboards in each study room. Better yet, you have the freedom to get up and walk around as much as you want, eat a full meal, or accidentally forget to connect your headphones to your laptop without drawing undue attention to yourself (these things all also happen in Becker Medical Library, I am just self conscious). We also all know that a study space is only as good as its study break opportunities — the Farrell Learning and Teaching Center will never fail you here. You can shut your eyes for just-a-few-minutes-I-swear in a nap pod, use a massage chair, watch TV, play games, or craft in the student lounges. TL;DR the Farrell Learning and Teaching Center has it all (except for functional dry erase markers most of the time but no one is perfect).
