Clinical Research Journal Club
Sundeep C., M1
The Clinical Research Journal Club meets regularly to discuss the latest and greatest in clinical research. During monthly meetings, students present work they find interesting and can even present their own research. We also work closely with the Clinical Outcomes Research Office to organize panels with upperclassmen, residents, and attendings, who can all share insights on their research journeys and available research opportunities.
The Hippocratic Forum
Helen R., M2 & Vikranth M., M1
The Hippocratic Forum (HF) is a group of doctors and medical trainees committed to rediscovering ideals in medicine. It was started by a group of trainees interested in exploring ways of cultivating a deeper sense of meaning and flourishing in the medical profession. The approach combines insights from cognitive behavioral therapy, neuroscience, and classical philosophy/virtue theory. Our chapter here at WashU Med hosts seminars, book clubs, and monthly lunch discussions on topics related to ideals in medicine, including practical wisdom, cognitive reframing, mindfulness/interior recollection, work-life harmony, justice, courage, and more.
– Helen R., M2
The mission statement for the Hippocratic Forum includes transforming “healthcare at the individual level by providing medical doctors and trainees the tools to aim for higher ideals, form meaningful relationships, and find space for reflection and recollection.” The student group hosts discussions on ethics, values, and philosophy. It is a great way to meet other students interested in cultivating values and exploring a variety of different philosophies that drive forward the field of medicine.

We have a group for almost any interest!
Student-led groups range from from arts and athletics, to government and policy, and service and support. If you have a passion that doesn’t have a group, the school’s faculty, leadership and alumni are very supportive of us creating new groups to organize our efforts.
