ACE Inhibitors

Jorin H., M1

ACE Inhibitors is the tennis club available to all medical students, residents, and other people involved on the WashU Medical Campus (completely free, of course). The “meetings” are once a week for two hours, and they are hosted in the evenings when most people have free schedules. We practice outside in Forest Park (close to the Medical Campus) when the weather permits, and it’s quite the vibe hitting tennis with your friends under stadium lights as the sun sets. During the winters, we move to an indoor tennis facility that’s ~15 minutes away by car. We have a very wide range of tennis ability levels from brand-new players to people who almost went pro, so don’t be scared to show up as there is always someone else your skill level to hit with. The club also started hosting tennis lessons for students who want to learn. Overall, ACE Inhibitors is a great way to blow off steam and hang with classmates as well as meet new people from other parts of WashU Med.

ClimbRx

Sylvia T., M1

ClimbRx is our indoor rock climbing club that welcomes climbers of all skill levels; I am an absolute beginner, and I have been welcomed with open arms. In addition to providing discounted membership rates at the nearby climbing gym, ClimbRx often hosts climb nights for significantly discounted (and sometimes completely free) rates. No matter if you’re a new or veteran climber, this is a great way to destress and get a workout in while also spending time with friends!

Hippocrene

Caroline J., M3

Hippocrene is an arts magazine by and for the students, staff, and faculty of WashU Medicine. We provide a medium for students to formally publish their talents and passions for art. Hippocrene accepts submissions of any art form, including, but not limited to: poetry, prose, photography, paintings, drawings, hybrid compositions, series of art or photographs, and digital forms (via photograph) of physical art including clothing/textiles, pottery, etc. Students comprise the editorial team and have opportunities to work with artists, submit their own art, and work on layout! If you enjoy art of any medium, Hippocrene is a great way to pursue this passion!

Med School Musical

Hayley Q., M4

The Medical School Musical is an annual Broadway production entirely directed, produced, designed, and performed by students at WashU Medicine-affiliated programs. It’s a great chance for students with all levels of experience to live out their theater dreams while meeting and connecting with students across the WashU Med-affiliated programs including MD, PT, OT, PhD, and PACS. Previous shows include Little Shop of Horrors, Grease, Beauty and the Beast, Legally Blonde, and more!

Narrative Medicine

Felicia W., M2

Writing will most definitely accompany you on your journey to becoming a physician, and at WashU Med, we encourage you to continue fostering your written communication skills. In the Narrative Medicine club, you can explore using language to create stories that convey meaning and emotion or just come for the goodies and snacks. Either is okay!

Wilderness Medicine Interest Group

Marwa M., M2

The Wilderness Medicine Interest Group is a one-stop shop for experiential learning of wilderness medicine and lots of fun. We run an advanced wilderness life support lecture series aimed at preparing students to get certified by the Advanced Wilderness Life Support (AWLS) exam run by the University of Utah. Our group is supported by amazing faculty and residents in emergency medicine. We also participate annually in the Medical Wilderness Adventure Race (MedWAR), most recently held in Harrogate, Tennessee. In addition to these cool opportunities, we run a gear rental program for the WashU Medicine community as well as host panel events, hikes, and other fun stuff throughout the year. It’s a great group for anyone who’s interested in emergency medicine, wilderness medicine, and combining a love of the outdoors with medicine!

We have a group for almost any interest!

Student-led groups range from from arts and athletics, to government and policy, and service and support. If you have a passion that doesn’t have a group, the school’s faculty, leadership and alumni are very supportive of us creating new groups to organize our efforts.
