Accepting Rotation Students for 2025-2026

Brian Clark, PhD

Brian Clark, PhD

Assistant Professor – Department of Ophthalmology; Assistant Professor – Department of Developmental Biology

Brian obtained his Bachelor’s degrees from the University of Wisconsin – Madison (Go Badgers!) in Molecular Biology and Neurobiology, worked as a technician at the Children’s Memorial Research Center (now Lurie Children’s Research Institute), obtained his PhD from the Department of Cell Biology, Neurobiology, and Anatomy at the Medical College of Wisconsin, and completed his post-doctoral fellowship at Johns Hopkins University.

Ismael Hernández-Núñez, PhD

Ismael Hernández-Núñez, PhD

Postdoctoral Research Fellow

Ismael obtained his Bachelor’s degree in Biology from the University of Extremadura in Badajoz, Spain, followed by a Master’s degree and a PhD in Neuroscience and Clinical Psychology from the University of Santiago de Compostela. Ismael joined the Clark lab as a Postdoctoral Research Fellow in September, 2022 and is studying how the regulation of DNA methylation impacts retinal development and cell fate specification.

Jade Enright Hostetler

Jade Enright Hostetler

Graduate Student – MCB Program

Jade obtained her Bachelor’s degree in Molecular Biology from McDaniel College in 2020 and is now pursuing her PhD in the Molecular Cell Biology program, studying the mechanisms of lncRNA function during retinal development.

Evelyn Craigen

Evelyn Craigen

Graduate Student – MGG Program

Evelyn obtained her Bachelor’s degree from the University of Texas at Austin in 2016 and worked as a technician at Baylor College of Medicine (Zoghbi lab) before joining the Molecular Genetics & Genomics program at Washington University as a graduate student. Evelyn’s research focuses on understanding how cis-regulatory sequence activity controls temporal gene expression within retinal progenitor cells.

Christy Hoffmann

Christy Hoffmann

Graduate Student – HSG Program

Christy obtained her Bachelor’s degree in Biology from the University of Missouri – St. Louis in 2016. After working as a technician in the Hughes Lab at Washington University in St. Louis, Christy joined the Human and Statistical Genetics program to pursue her PhD at WUSTL. In the Clark Lab, Christy works to identify and understand how transcription factors regulate retinal development and cell fate specification.

Alexis Robertson

Alexis Robertson

Graduate Student – Neuroscience Program

Alexis obtained her Bachelor’s degree in Neuroscience at Rhodes College in 2022. She then worked in the Roberts lab at St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital as a research technician. Alexis is in the DBBS Neurosciences program and her research in the Clark lab will characterize the molecular underpinnings of how an inherited, novel patient mutation leads to retinitis pigmentosa.

Vicky Rodríguez Mendoza

Vicky Rodríguez Mendoza

Post-Bac – OGR Program

Vicky obtained her Bachelor’s degree from the University of Florida in 2024 and worked at NysnoBio as an Associate Scientist studying early onset Parkinson’s Disease. After graduating, Vicky joined WashU’s Opportunities in Genomics Research Extensive Program as a Post-Bac. In the Clark lab, Vicky’s research focuses on the epigenetic mechanisms that control photoreceptor fate in retinal development.
