Presented by:
Jason Newland, MD, MEd
Professor of Pediatrics, Infectious Diseases
Washington University School of Medicine

Through our collaborative Safe Return to School project, educational inequities were witnessed in school communities that serve predominantly Black and Latinx students, primarily in St Louis’ North County. These schools are showing a decrease in educational achievement, influenced in part by remaining in the virtual environment for months longer than school systems that are privileged to not have to address the level of psycho-social and ecosystem complexity that affect these students and families. Join Dr Newland as he addresses the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic and will highlight lessons learned to combat the disproportionate impact on our school communities.

This presentation is part of the Brown School’s recognition of Black History Month.
