About this Site

The City on a Hill Archive is an effort at Washington University in St. Louis’s Humanities Digital Workshop (HDW) under the direction of Prof. Abram Van Engen. Presently under development, this site is intended only for limited use in courses at WUSTL, but we intend it to become part of a larger online resource for the study of American exceptionalism. Currently, the majority of the site’s data comes from the digitized print texts made available on Google Books, and links to the Google Books pages for the individual texts are provided in the search results pages.
