The Liaison Committee on Medical Education (LCME) is the nationally recognized accrediting authority for medical education programs leading to the M.D. degree in in the U.S. (and Canada). The Association of American Medical Colleges (AAMC) and the Council on Medical Education of the American Medical Association (AMA) both sponsor LCME and its accreditation process.
In the fall of 2021, we will begin preparation for the Washington University School of Medicine peer review/site visit from the LCME, scheduled for February 19-22, 2023. WUSM is seeking an eight-year reaccreditation of our M.D. degree program. The LCME accreditation process has two aims:
- To certify that a medical education program meets prescribed standards for function, structure, and performance.
- To promote institutional and programmatic self-evaluation and improvement.
