Waiting for Launch

We are currently waiting for the next launch opportunity on 12/27 New Zealand time (12/26 UTC). In the meantime, we are exercising the X-Calibur systems and checking the activity level of bright X-ray sources. The Neil Gehrels Swift observatory is a great resource for this, as the satellite carries a broad field of view telescope (the Burst Alert Telescope) which scans the entire scan several times a day, and posts the results on the www. Right now, the X-ray pulsars AX J1631.9-4752, Vela X-1, and GX 301-2  could be observed from a location above McMurdo.
