Preparing for COP24

Beth Martin attends Talanoa Dialogue session May 6, 2018

The 24rd Conference of the Parties to the UNFCCC will take place in November 2018. At the conference, the parties will conduct the first Facilitative Dialogue and Global Stocktake regarding Nationally Determined Contributions (NDCs) submitted in accordance to the Paris Agreement in 2016. At COP24, parties will also continue preparing for the next round of NDC submissions due in 2020.

The 2018 Facilitative Dialogue is also known as the Talanoa Dialogue. Talanoa is a tradition word used in Fiji and other Pacific islands to reflect a process of “inclusive, participatory and transparent dialogue” (UNFCCC). To prepare for COP24, address questions about how the Global Stocktake should run, and encourage maximum ambition towards climate action, the Fijian presidency of the UNFCCC has organized preparatory dialogue sessions, including the May Talanoa sessions, oepn to UNFCCC parties and stockholders.
